Farah Ruma: reflections & confessions

Farah Ruma: reflections & confessions

She rose to fame as a TV actor. This year, she chartered into the big screen. And her charms worked there as well. Farah Ruma, with her dazzling looks and beautiful performances, has secured a corner in many a heart. While the spotlight chases after her, she tries to chase away from it: she is a very private person. And yet, as Star Showbiz talked to her, a very good-natured, friendly and candid Ruma could be glimpsed at, with the conversion spinning from her movie to her career to her love life.
Let's start a little differently today. If you were an interviewer, what would you ask the person?
Well, it depends on the person I am interviewing, right? What are the things that the audience doesn't know about that person? I would emphasize on that.
Let's say you are interviewing me. What would you ask?
I would definitely want to know what runs through your head when you are interviewing. Is it like, “All right, today my mission is to extract all the information out of her, by any means necessary?” What are the questions that revolve around your head?
A lot of questions come into mind. To be honest, I love getting to know people. And, a happy and cheerful face is uplifting to see and to talk to. Meanwhile, the audience is always excited about celebrities and their lives; at the same time, many celebrities try to create buzz in the media for their own sake. Where do you fit in this situation?
When it comes to my personal life, I am quite mum. I haven't let myself become an open book. I'm a very private person. I want that when the media is talking about me, it should stick to my work.

Tell us about your first movie.
The film is called 'Putro Ekhon Paisawala' and was directed by Nargis Akhter. It was released in a time when there were hartals and blockades every day. And at the same day, 'Romeo Versus Juliet', which was a big budget, high profile movie, also hit the halls. Nevertheless, I got raving reviews and kind words of appreciation from a wide variety of people - from film directors to friends and relatives.
When the movie was a work-in-progress, I admit that my faith was tested. There were times when I was sceptic about many things. For example, I felt that my acting was too 'loud'. But when I watched the finished product, all my doubts were cleared.
The director and I went to watch the movie in a theatre without letting the people know that we were among them to observe the reactions of the audience first hand. Seeing their positive reactions and applauses was a very gratifying experience.
You are a television actress. But now, you are a movie star too. Usually, we see that when TV stars enter the big screen, they tend to stick to that. What is your plan?
A very common opinion that I used to receive from my audience is that they always wanted to see me in films. And I take the feedback of my audience and fans very seriously. I will probably do more movies; but since I haven't officially started on a project yet, I can't say for sure.
Are you interested in working in Kolkata?
I really appreciate that many people from Kolkata enjoyed my work. Somehow, a connection developed between me and many makers in Kolkata. I even went there and had meetings with some of them. I do get offers to work there. Let's see what happens. I'll do it in my sweet time. It's not like I am in a rush right now.
There is also an issue about the role I would play. Of course, I would want to be a part of the main or leading cast and not in a minor or side role.

Let's discuss just a little bit about your personal life. When are we going to hear the wedding bells ringing?
I am an emotional person, and relationships are very important to me. When many people decide on the person and the relationship, they think with their minds, considering the pros and cons self-servingly. And others think with their hearts. I am among the latter. Sometimes I become the loser; sometimes I become the winner. I try to maintain a relationship with all my heart.
Yes, I am in a relationship. And I thoroughly believe in the institution of marriage. I love taking care of family and I would easily prioritise my family over my career.
