Sammi Giancola finally opened up on her decision not to join the cast of Jersey Shore for their upcoming MTV reunion: She’s simply not the same person she used to be.
“I have chosen not to join the show this season because I am at a completely different place in my life right now focusing on my businesses and relationship,” Giancola wrote in an Instagram post, shared on Friday. “I am not the same person I was at 22. At 31, I am currently extremely happy in every aspect of my life and want to avoid potentially toxic situations.”
An original member of Jersey Shore—which aired on MTV from 2009 to 2012—Giancola was known for her tumultuous relationship with co-star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro. The pair started the reality show single, but their romance quickly blossomed. Over the course of six seasons, though, their relationship turned hostile and they were often shown fighting and arguing.

Ortiz-Magro will appear on the MTV revival, Jersey Shore Family Vacation, premiering on Thursday, along with original castmates Deena Cortese, Paul “Pauly D” DelVecchio, Jennifer “JWoww” Farley, Vinny Guadagnino, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino.
Giancola noted her decision not to reunite with the cast in Miami was a “difficult” one to make, because she loves all her old “roomies.” However, the online-boutique owner and host of Just Sayin podcast said she would prefer to focus her time on her future and the things that truly make her happy.
“I will forever be grateful to Jersey Shore and everything it has brought to me! I’ve just decided to live my life for me these days. Also I am forever grateful & thankful for all of you!!!” she wrote. “Special shout out to my fans, but I’m not going anywhere! Follow me and stay tuned you never know what I could be up to next!”
